The first weekend of May ushered in a mix of rugged springtime conditions and record-setting performances across North America. From desert trails in Arizona to misty mountain routes in Tennessee, here are some highlights from May 3–4 ultramarathons:
Whiskey Basin Trail Runs – Prescott, Arizona

Course: A clockwise loop around Prescott’s scenic Whiskey Basin Trail

One of Arizona’s most anticipated early-summer ultras, Whiskey Basin featured rocky climbs and remote vistas. The 91k race included 6,500 feet of elevation gain, testing even experienced trail veterans.

This southern classic, first held in 1979, welcomed over 200 runners for its 45th edition. Despite the humidity, strong times were logged on the rolling road course known for its Southern charm and historical roots.

CTC River Gorge Ultra – Chattanooga, Tennessee

Course: Technical singletrack along the Tennessee River Gorge
